Hailing from Chicago, Marla Glen is a jazz and blues singer who was born t a Mexican American father and an American Jamaican mother. With musically inclined parents who were friends with legendary blues guitarist BB King, Glen discovered her affinity for music at a young age and quickly began developing herself as a vocalist. She began earning local acclaim from critics and fans, and eventually branched out into European audiences after winning a trip to perform in France from a local jam session contest. She decided to stay in Europe and formed the Marla Glen Band, subsequently releasing her debut and breakthrough album, This is Marla Glen, in 1993. After feeling ruthlessly exploited by the music industry, she spent a period in deep reflection but eventually made a comeback in 2003, with her album Friends. Known for her haunting lyrics and commitment to social change, Glen is well loved and respected among her fans and the jazz and blues communities.
