Though it's named after the lead singer/songwriter in the group, Bensh is also a quirky indie pop trio currently residing in Vienna, Austria. The group's songs are stripped-down and economically executed, often relying on little more than one clean electric guitar, an acoustic guitar, vocals and some percussion. Within that framework however, Bensh carves out its own unique style with interesting melodic hooks that manage to stay catchy despite their somewhat off-kilter nature. Occasionally, electronic flourishes creep into the band's music, offering a nice contrast to the lighter, more organic instrumentation. Bensh has been showered with praise from European music critics quick to liken its style to that of Beck or Syd Barrett. And while the group has a long way to go to live up to such lofty comparisons, it's nevertheless managed to cultivate its own style apart from much of the indie pop coming out of the modern scene.
