Daniel Johnston

Daniel Johnston's folk rock, lo-fi sound often folds dark, brooding undertones into its style. The alternative singer/songwriter got his start recording Beatles-inspired tunes while still in high school, and from there he began to make a name for himself in the Austin, Texas region in the late-1980s. His popularity hit the big-times when Kurt Cobain was seen wearing a T-shirt with Johnston's album cover on it, and record labels participated in an all-out bidding war for this outsider musician. Johnston is also a comic book artist who features his drawings in most of his albums. Johnston passed away in his hometown of Austin in 2019.
