Though the foundations for the punk genre were planted in New York, fostered and eventually nurtured in England during the late-1970s, variations of the aggressive style of music began to flourish in the 1980s with genre-bending bands like the Austin, Texas-based group Scratch Acid. Formed in 1982, the quartet mixed elements of noise rock with punk to create an wholly original style of music that managed to resound well with followers of rapaciously forward thinking rock music. After releasing three well received albums, Scratch Acid decided to call it quits in 1987; but the group has since reunited on to play one off shows or the infrequent tour--making a performances by the band a rare opportunity to see true punk innovators in the flesh.
