While his band Steriogram was on hiatus, Bradley Hanan Carter decided to start a side project, eventually becoming Los Angeles-based five-piece NO. Creating music in the same vein as The National, the group creates what it calls "post-hymnal" music--essentially lush indie rock with barritone vocals that reflect on adult life with a tasteful blend of both sentimental and straightforward lyrics. Though the band name is nearly impossible to search for online and doesn't exactly make the band stand apart, NO's music has set it apart on the Los Angeles music scene and has won the group a devoted fan base. In 2014, it changed its name to "Black English."
