Freshkills is a post punk band that developed a tight knit following among the locals in Brooklyn with its daring and noisy live shows. The band released its debut album Creeps and Lovers in 2006, exposing its droning, pop punk-infused brand of post punk during a time when indie-pop and drum machines dominated popular music. Lead singer Zachary Lipez uses his gaudy voice to add grit to Freshkills' melodic guitar and steady rhythms, resulting in a fresh rock and roll sound that has been praised for being reminiscent of the dangerous and dirty early days of rock music. By the time the band released its self-titled sophomore effort in 2008, its live performances made it a notorious act in New York City's underground music scene. The band's 2012 album Raise Up the Streets, demonstrates a refinement in Freshkills songwriting with delicate but even darker melodies and fighting twin guitars.
