When Johnny Winter and his brother Edgar burst on the scene in the 1970s with their rock band The Edgar Winter Group, the two stuck out like sore thumbs because they were albinos. While their light, almost translucent, skin inhibited them from spending a good amount of time in the sun, it didn't stop them from hunkering down in a dim basement to practice their instruments and write songs. Staying inside, away from the sun, probably was the reason why Johnny was such a gifted guitar player. While all the other kids were outside, playing baseball and scraping their knees, Johnny and his brother were training themselves for a rock n' roll life style. While Edgar chose to pursue the keyboards, Johnny trained himself on the 6-string electric guitar, and even though the brothers popularity rose and fell following their breakout, Johnny still kept up a respectable solo career, until he passed away in 2014.
