The talented musician who performs under the moniker Taj Mahal was born Henry Saint Clair Fredericks, Jr., in New York City. He made a name for himself by blending traces of world music, specifically African and Caribbean, with defined elements of blues to create a style of music that blatantly harks back to the blues' formative days when the genre was still in its infancy.
