Jewel is a American singer/songwriter who burst on the music scene in 1995 with her platinum selling album Pieces of You. Spending the majority of her formative years in the rural town of Homer, Alaska, Jewel grew up in a house without indoor pluming and would sometimes sing in a local bar with her father to raise money. When she was old enough, Jewel began traveling around the country in a van with her guitar, busking and playing various small gigs. After being noticed by guitarist Steve Poltz after Jewel played at a coffee house in San Diego, arrangements were made and she signed a recording contract. Now, years later, Jewel has grown into one of America's more recognizable musicians who has won multiple Grammy awards and sold over 27 million albums.
