With a repertoire colored by pop standards, Carly Simon is a singer/songwriter from New York City who is best known for her 1972 classic "You're So Vain." First introduced to the music industry as one-half of The Simon Sisters along with her sister Lucy, Simon began her solo career in 1971 with the release of her eponymous debut album, which featured her first top-ten hit, "That's the Way I've Always Heard It Should Be." Steadily rising as one of the US's most loved pop artists, she released her international hit "You're So Vain," as a single to her breakthrough album No Secrets, which peaked at number one on US Albums charts for a solid six weeks. The number one single sold over a million copies in the US alone, earned Simon three Grammy nominations, and remains one of the biggest cultural enigmas, sparking an unresolved debate over which of Simon's past romantic partners serves as the song's subject. She spent the next decade releasing several hits including "Mockingbird," her 1974 duet with James Taylor, and the 1977 track "Nobody Does It Better," which was used as the theme of the James Bond flick, The Spy Who Loved Me. She contributed music to several movies throughout the 1980s, most notably the 1988 film Working Girl, for which she lent "Let the River Run," earning an Academy Award, a Grammy Award and a Golden Globe. Simon's collection of singles as well as studio, live and motion picture albums will ensure she is remembered for her contributions to music and pop culture.
