Barrington Levy

A recording sensation in Jamaica since he was only 14, Barrington Levy was the island's single biggest star throughout the 1980s and was a key figure in the development of dub and dancehall music. Levy has such a distinctive voice -outrageously smooth and bordering on the androgynous - that he's always in high demand to record duets with other artists as a guest vocalist. Though his recorded output has slowed from its breakneck pace during the '80s, he is still consistently a driving force in reggae music to this day.
