Melbourne duo Nisa Venerosa and Jarrod Zlatic seem rather proud that their music, under the guise of Fabulous Diamonds, is considered, by many listeners, unpalatable, droning, background music with no clear direction during the 20-some minutes each song drags on for. In fact, the duo even brags about this on its MySpace page, quoting many of the reviews of the aforementioned impervious listeners. Perhaps it is slightly pretentious that the band seems to consider its music too advanced for the average listener, who then dubs the music as dull or grating, but Fabulous Diamonds does actually make some pretty "advanced" drone-electro. Between the rhythmic pulsing of Venerosa's drums, the layered keys and effects of Zlatic, and the subtle, occasionally embedded vocals, the band's music is haunting and surprisingly minimalist. While it is unlikely that Fabulous Diamonds will ever break through to the mainstream--nor does it seem the band wants to do this--the fact remains, that the duo makes intelligent and interesting music.
