Carolyn Sampson is an English operatic soprano who specializes in historically informed performances, which adhere to the aesthetic criteria of the period the music was originally produced in. While studying music at Birmingham University, she earned awards including an Arnold Goldsborough Prize for Baroque music before making her opera debut with the English National Opera as Amore in Monteverdi's L'incoronazione di Poppea. In addition to her opera and concert performances, Sampson has recorded several enduring classical pieces as a soloist, and was the first to ever record all twelve stanzas of Bach's aria Alles mit Gott und nicht ohn' ihn, BWV 1127, in 2005.
