New York City-based Chief Boima is one of growing number of DJs and producers throughout the world who are fusing the traditional and pop sounds of Africa into Western dance and electronic music. Boima has made a name for himself by incorporating urban and traditional African sounds like rumba, coupé décalé and rai into a unique sound. Boima has released a number of EPs, one of them entitled Techno Rumba for the New York global electronic music label, Dutty Artz. Boima released a self-titled EP in 2010 with Los Angeles producer Oro11 as Banana Clipz, which paired cumbia, dancehall and coupé décalé. Chief Boima's DJ sets are particularly memorable since he blends dance music from around the world unlike most other DJs of his kind.
