He may not have been raised in the United States, but Ray Bonneville is well-versed in the country's blues heritage. Born in Canada, his parents relocated to Boston while he was in his early teens. When it came time for them to move back, Bonneville stayed behind to work recording studio jobs, study music and hone his own guitar playing and songwriting skills. He usually performs solo, relying on just his electric guitar, occasional harmonica and the stomp of his foot. Echoes of classic period Bob Dylan can be found in Bonneville's raspy voice, which sounds authentically well-traveled and tattered, just the way a blues musician should. Now based out of Austin, Texas, he continues to keep the sparse purity of the genre's spirit alive.
