The Bronx is a hardcore punk band from Los Angeles, California that, strangely enough, also performs on the side as a mariachi band under the conspicuous pseudonym Mariachi El Bronx. Since forming in 2002, the band has experienced a tremendous amount of recording and touring success, despite not being as creatively prolific as some of its counterparts in the genre. The band's eponymous debut album, released in 2003, was an immediate success with audiences and critics such as Allmusic who celebrated the album as a "beautifully violent exhibition of pure punk rock." The Bronx has since gone on to release three more critically acclaimed eponymous albums, and is, by all accounts, considered to be one of LA's foremost representatives of hardcore punk on the scene today, as well as the undisputed leader of hardcore bands that perform mariachi on the side.
