While she had a manager for her music career since the age of 16, education was hugely important to Emeli Sande and she insisted on finishing medical school before attempting to make something of herself in the music industry, so she had a steady career to fall back on if music didn't work out. However, after graduating, Sande immediately delved into songwriting and within the year had co-written two UK Top 10 hits, "Diamond Rings" with Chipmunk and "Never Be Your Woman" with Wiley. Poised to begin releasing solo work, the Scottish songstress signed with Virgin Records in 2010 and began working on a debut album. With her versatile, soulful vocals and R&B-tinged pop, Emeli Sande is likely to remain a tremendous presence on the UK music scene.
