Slint was a short-lived but influential math/post rock band from Louisville, Kentucky. Formed in 1986, the group had the luxury of recording with legendary punk and indie rock producer Steve Albini just a year later, on its debut LP, Tweez. That album was successful in its experimental take on post-hardcore music and blasts of cathartic noise, but ultimately proved to be a teaser for what would come a couple of years later. Spiderland, Slint's second and final LP, has become a classic indie rock album that regularly pops up as a personal favorite amongst many modern day artists. Tracks such as "Good Morning, Captain" best exemplify the band's ability to develop serious emotional weight from spiky, angular guitar work, spoken lyrics, tastefully math-y arrangements and occasional eruptions of distortion-drenched choruses. Slint's cult popularity has grown over time, and though the band officially broke up in 1991, it has reunited for occasional live performances over recent years.
