Chicago-based alternative rapper David Cohn doesn’t embody the traditional idea of a rapper. Performing under the moniker Serengeti, Cohn produced his best-selling release Deheny, as a concept album from the perspective of a cliché Chicagoan, and additionally Serengeti claims that the album tried to be the opposite of what everyone complains about in contemporary hip-hop. Though this underground style of hip hop is what Serengeti is known for, he has also produced several albums in a variety of genres, spanning garage rock to experimental electronica. Serengeti is known for being procreative and has released albums on multiple labels, including bay area cult-label Anticon.
