As a young child, Krista Muir was exposed to a number of different music styles. Raised in Kingston, Ontario, Muir established bonds to crude, yet arty punk heroes like The Ramones and politically-charged outfits like The Clash. At the same time, she developed an extremely strong affinity for intelligent synthpop groups such as Pet Shop Boys. These groups would go on to lay the foundations for Muir's love of music and her interest in songwriting. Learning how to play the piano as a kid also helped establish within the young Canadian a strong independent spirit and a knack for creating melodic sonic arrangements. Muir released her first album, Lederhosen Lucil...Let's Hose!, in 1999, which quickly helped establish the songstress as one of the more interesting Canadian tune-smiths of her generation.
