After having played in different bands, UK-born brothers Django and Sam Stewart decided to team up for a songwriting session; the too-good-to-ignore results led to the creation of Nightmare and the Cat in 2010. The duo, who named itself after a track by Anthony Harwood, grew in size as they recruited Claire Acey, Spike Phillips, and Julie Mitchell. The latter was replaced by the drummer of Midnight Squires, Scott Henson, after relocating. The Band gained popularity in its adopted hometown of Los Angeles and headed for unknown territory with the production of its first full-length album, Simple. The songs on the album show great variation as they range from the deep "Simple," to the poppy "Goodbye" and folky "Mae," together adding up to a complexly beautiful album.
