The Los Angeles-based outfit El Ten Eleven is an experimental rock duo that was formed in 2002. Deriving its name from an aircraft called The Lockheed L-1011 Tristar, the band uses a double neck guitar with heavy looping and effects pedals to creates atmospheric post-rock with tinges of Americana. El Ten Eleven had secured an audience in its native town of Los Angeles with its epic walls of sound at live shows even before the 2004 release of its self-titled debut album. After being featured in Gary Hustwit's 2007 documentary Helvetica, the band's notoriety began to expand beyond California, just in time for its follow-up record, Every Direction Is North. By the time El Ten Eleven released its fifth studio effort Transitions, in 2012, the band had been featured in two more of Hustwit's documentaries and had toured the nation several times, making stops at various festivals including South By Southwest.
