Saratoga Springs, New York-based band Phantogram is ostensibly an indie rock band, though they frequently incorporate drum machines and electronically programmed beats into songs driven by electric guitar and synth melodies. The band is influenced by hip-hop instrumentals in this regard, as well as pop and rock music. Dance music is central to Phantogram's sonic ethos, and so is lead singer Sarah Barthel's unique voice. The group's 2009 debut LP, Eyelid Movies, helped establish the band as a forward thinking act that's not afraid to distinguish itself with a characteristically modern electropop sound.
