With a population of just over 300,000, it's pretty amazing the amount of quality music that Iceland generates on a regular basis. Artists such as Bjork and Sigur Ros have gone on to widespread international success and acclaim, while many smaller groups have procured successful independent careers--even if they didn't receive quite as much attention. One such artist is the experimental folktronica band Mum, which has quietly amassed a solid catalog of glitchy ambient pop. Olof Arnalds is a member of Mum and in recent years has also taken to maintaining a solo career. Stripped-down to just bare elements that include acoustic guitar, ukulele and twee percussion, Arnalds plays a lilting, fragile version of folk music that is carried by her odd but endearing voice. She released her solo debut LP, Vid Og Vio, in 2007 and currently balances her time between work with Mum and her solo career.
