Most notable for founding British psychedelic blues-rock trio Cream with Eric Clapton, Jack Bruce was a revered musician throughout the world. First starting his musical career studying composition at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, Bruce was caught playing jazz music, which the Academy didn't approve of, and given the ultimatum to stop playing jazz or leave the school; Bruce left the school. After touring with various blues and jazz bands, Bruce found his biggest success as bass player and primary songwriter for Cream, the first band to receive platinum awards for record sales. By the late 1960s, however, Cream had broken up and Bruce went solo, collaborating with various artists and forming various bands on occasion, but primarily acting as a singer/songwriter in an impressive variety of genres.
