Serving as lead guitarist for both Soulfly and Ill Nino, Marc Rizzo has earned a reputation as one of the best heavy metal guitarists of the modern era. Born in New Jersey, Rizzo shreds with complete control of his instrument and a combination of intricate techniques that have helped him rise to the top of a crowded metal circuit. One of his biggest strengths is an obvious interest and open-mind for all types of music. It's not uncommon to hear shades of progressive rock, blues and even flamenco guitar pop up in his solos and riffs. In 2005, Rizzo stepped away from his bands' spotlights and released Colossal Myopia, his first solo LP. While average metal fans will probably yearn for the appeal of a full-band approach, guitar enthusiasts and music theory geeks will find a lot to sift through in Rizzo's highly technical playing.
