Brothers Dennis and Jimmy Flemion, known together as The Frogs, create acoustic folk rock full of subversive humor that can be likened to that of Ween and the Butthole Surfers. The comedy rock duo began performing together around 1980 in various coffeehouses all over the Milwaukee area. Soon, the brothers began pairing their loosely psychedelic songs with an edgy, in-your-face, often juvenile lyrical style that would grow to become their trademark. Racial stereotypes and slurs are a big part of the Frogs' music, and with songs such as "God Is Gay," so is the notion of homosexuality. The more you listen to the songs, however, the more obvious it is that the duo just get a kick out of inciting anger out of overly-sensitive audiences more than they actually believe any of the over-the-top content they're singing about. The Flemion brothers enjoyed their biggest period of success during the grunge years of the early to mid-1990s, when artists such as Kurt Cobain, Eddie Vedder and Billy Corgan openly sung their praises. The band's glory years unfortunately came to an abrupt end with the sad demise of Dennis Flemion in 2012.
