Black Sheep is a hip-hop duo hailing from Queens, New York, consisting of Andres "Dres" Vargas Titus and William "Mista Lawnge" McLean. Although based in New York, the duo met in Sanford, North Carolina during their teenage years. As part of the Native Tongues collective, alongside acts like Jungle Brothers, A Tribe Called Quest, and De La Soul, Black Sheep gained recognition for their unique rhythms and clever, often humorous lyrics. Their debut album, A Wolf in Sheep's Clothing, released in 1991, earned them praise within the hip-hop community and featured the hit song "Flavor of the Month." Despite disbanding in 1995 due to creative differences, Black Sheep's impact on the genre was significant, as they were the first hip-hop act to appear on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Dres and Mista Lawnge pursued separate projects following the split, with Dres releasing an online-only album in 2006 under the name Black Sheep and Mista Lawnge continuing his music career under the name Mista Long.
