Alternative hip-hop artist AmpLive rose to recognition in 2008, when he released the 8-track album Rainydayz Remixes, featuring his own hip-hop-infused renditions of tracks from Radiohead's 2007 LP, In Rainbows. The album garnered widespread attention from critics, fans and the lawyers of Warner/Chappell Music, who own the rights to Radiohead's album. Backed by a rabid social media following as well as the support of the mainstream music press, AmpLive was allowed to release Rainydayz Remixes as a free download, and as a result, he reached a massive audience and made a name for himself in the competitive world of hip-hop. He released his album Murder at the Discotech, in 2010 and has since continued to release both solo and collaborative material. In addition to his work as one-half of the Oakland, CA-based duo Zion I, he frequently teams up with fellow alternative hip-hop artists The Grouch and Eligh.
