After forming in 1979, the Scottish band Orange Juice managed to become a noteworthy band starting off as a post punk group, later transitioning into a band making a listener-friendly style of new wave, before breaking up in 1985. Eager to snatch up and sign any band that was associated with the avant-garde rock scene, the label Polydor Records signed Orange Juice shortly after its formation and released its debut album, Falling and Laughing, in 1980. The album, as well as the group's subsequent albums, performed fairly respectably on the UK charts, even though the band was little more than a blip on the screen of the American musical radar. Orange Juice split up in 1985, but has since gone on to be well-regarded by many music aficionados who look at the group's music as an integral aspect in the evolution of modern rock music.
