New Zealand based trio, The Clean, was formed in '78 and immediately became a cult band in its home country. While a few singles made its way to the charts of the US and UK, it's fame was never far reaching. Despite this, The Clean is often cited as one of the biggest influences for modern indie rock bands, including Pavement and Yo La Tengo. With its psyche pop that relies heavily on droney chords and organ-based melodies, The Clean has a distinct sound that is just as relevant today as it was in the late '70s. After Merge Records released The Clean's greatest hits compilation in 2009, the band scheduled a reunion tour with extensive European and American dates.
