Starting her career as a member of the now defunct Immaculate Machine and achieving fame with indie powerpop band The New Pornographers, Kathryn Calder is no stranger to the stage. The Canadian singer/songwriter embarked on a solo venture in 2010 and soon thereafter released Are You My Mother, an acclaimed debut album full of piano balladry, acoustic guitar and chanteuse vocals. While Calder still tours with The New Pornographers and thus doesn't devote all her time to her solo work, on rare occasions she does perform her own material with a backing band, and is certainly worth seeing live.
