Most noted as the front man for 1990s alternative band, The Pixies, Charles Michael Kittridge Thompson IV embarked on a solo career under the moniker Frank Black in 1993 after his band's breakup. Since then, he has performed with a backing band known as The Catholics and eventually re-assumed the pseudonym which he used in performing with The Pixies, Black Francis. His musical style has shifted dramatically over the years, from yelping grunge-style vocals, to more introspective Leonard Cohen ballads, to his 2010 dark score for the German silent film originally released in 1920, The Golem. However, throughout these shifts, Black Francis has only continued to gain critical acclaim and a steadily growing audience.
