Be Your Own Pet was a female-fronted garage punk band from Nashville. Led by the propulsive energy and bratty vocals of Jemina Pearl, the group came together casually in 2003, the product of collaborations between local Nashville musicians and friend-of-a-friend style recruiting. The band's self-titled debut was released in 2006 to overwhelmingly positive reception, with critics praising its playful and raucous style. As a front-woman, Pearl is brash and in-your-face, which lends itself to the kinetic pop punk and garage rock being made by her band mates. Be Your Own Pet would go on to release only one more full-length album, 2008's Get Awkward, before deciding to break up later that same year.
